South Sudanese Runner Dominic Lobalu Shines on European Stage
From Tragedy to Triumph
Dominic Lokinyomo Lobalu, born on August 16, 1998, has emerged as a Swiss middle and long-distance runner who has made a name for himself in European competitions. Despite enduring the horrors of war and witnessing the tragic loss of his parents, Lobalu has found solace and success in the sport of running.
Lobalu's journey is a testament to resilience and determination. Fleeing the civil war in South Sudan at the tender age of nine, he was forced to witness the brutal murder of his parents. These traumatic experiences left an indelible mark on his life, but they did not extinguish his spirit.
Upon arriving in Switzerland, Lobalu found a sanctuary in running. He joined the Athletics Club Dübendorf and began training under the guidance of coach Markus Hagmann. With the support of Hagmann and his family, Lobalu's talent began to flourish.
In September 2023, Lobalu made his European debut, representing Switzerland. His impressive performances on the continental stage have earned him a place in the Diamond League, where he has competed alongside the world's elite athletes. Lobalu's remarkable rise is a beacon of hope for those who have overcome adversity and a source of inspiration for aspiring runners everywhere.
